TUSEN ÅR UNDER JORD is an obscure project from Sweden which transcends the common borders of ambient, dark folk and nostalgic vinyl sounds.
The first release of this obscure entity was a tape with the title "Sorgsendömet Fobos", published by the respectable Hibiskofon label in 2013. The music was originally described as "standstill timbres, pale moon music, a suite of faux kosmische orchastrals". Daniel, the man behind TUSEN ÅR UNDER JORD, explains: "The creative mélange that drives the musical ideas and dialects of TUSEN ÅR UNDER JORD is derived from 30 years of passionately listening to music as well as sifting through and ransacking thousands of hours of discarded and forgotten phonograms. To single something out is nearly impossible and would most likely miss the target more or less entirely."
Encouraged by Trollmusic, Daniel carefully touched the original recordings in 2015, added a new (sixth) part to "Sorgsendömet Fobos" and realized a sublime interpretation of the original artwork (which contains more than meets the eye at first). The whole album was mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison d'être et al.)
